Student Support
Resources Library
We are proud to be the first Boston Public School named an inclusion high school. Our students come with a wide range of strengths and needs, and we are committed to supporting and challenging each student.
Our Student Support Team provides a wide range of services to support students with special education, English as a second language, mental health, college and career planning, and general school success coaching.
We welcome students with identified learning needs of all kinds. To discuss an IEP/504 plan, ESL instruction, or other accommodations and support from our student support team, please contact Dean of Student Achievement, Joy Bautista.
School-family partnerships are critical to the success and achievement of our students.
Special Education and Learning Center
As a full inclusion school, students with an Individualized Learning Plan (IEP) spend at least 80% of their day in a general education classroom. Some students are eligible to be pulled out for no more than 20% of their day in order to receive specialized support in a learning center with a special education teacher. Special education teachers and paraprofessionals also push into classrooms to support students with an IEP. Our social workers are organized to provide any required counseling services through an IEP.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
ESL instruction is provided in a pull out model along with co-teaching support with regular education teachers in a push in model.
Health and Wellness
The Health & Wellness Team is staffed by licensed mental health professionals, a school nurse, health educators, and clinical and nursing interns. The Wellness Office offers a range of clinical services to our students and their families including crisis intervention, short-term counseling support, group counseling, family support, coaching/mentoring, and case management support. These services are provided to support students’ emotional functioning and academic success and are available to all BAA students free of charge.” Click here to learn more about health and wellness services at BAA.
What is a School Counselor?
School counselors are professionals who help students to succeed academically, support social-emotional learning, and navigate their post-secondary plans. School counselors help students create goals, mindsets, and behaviors. At BAA each student is assigned a school counselor by their art major. The school counseling team consists of three counselors, Ms. Miranda, Ms. Fazio, and Ms. Horne. Our team partners with College Advising Corps and Boston Private Industry Council (PIC).
