On Thursday, March 16, 2023, Boston Arts Academy Foundation and event Co-Chairs John and Victoria Dozier hosted the Champion Reception at House of Blues where City of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and former Mayor Kim Janey were celebrated as Champions. The Champion Award recognizes individuals who embody the school’s commitment to the arts, scholarship, and citizenship. We were thrilled to celebrate Mayor Wu and former Mayor Janey—our city’s first two female mayors—during Women’s History Month.
“Both women are trailblazers in their own right, and both believe so deeply and passionately in the arts…they also believe strongly
in urban education,” said Denella J. Clark, Boston Arts Academy Foundation’s President and CEO. “Many of the students at
Boston Arts Academy look like and represent both Mayor Wu
and Mayor Janey.”
Following the Champion Reception, guests including Mayor Wu and Mayor Janey walked to BAA’s new theatre to attend the opening night production of Shrek! The Musical.
