About Cora Yamagata, Chair

Cora Yamagata has served for four years on the Advisory Council, most recently served as Chair. She holds a BFA in Theater and Dance and has a multidisciplinary arts background spanning lighting design, stage management, and professional performance. As a recipient of an arts scholarship while pursuing her degree as a single mother, Cora has firsthand experience of how access can expand what is possible. This scholarship, along with her broader lived experiences, continues to guide her commitment to advancing equitable access to arts education.

In her professional work, Cora assesses risk and operates through the lens of financial, legal, and professional liability in advising clients. She utilizes a disciplined, analytical approach to decision-making and has an informed perspective on governance and accountability within regulated environments.

Cora believes the arts build resilience, foster creative problem-solving, and cultivate collaboration, discipline, and respect for diverse perspectives. She contributes annually and actively supports BAAF’s fundraising efforts, including engaging and expanding the organization’s network of supporters. She is committed to the organization’s continued growth and impact.
