On March 8th, Boston Arts Academy students had the opportunity to hear from Jared about the acting industry. He shared his experience as a broadway actor and breaking into the profession and how he's approaching his goals for work in television. 

BAA students grapple with the questions all artists face; what is the reality of show business, and what are the steps to get booked? After landing a role, how do you prepare to perform correctly?

Another Monday at BAA! With a twist, BAA held a special concert during lunch. WanMore performed on the gathering stair stage and brought along special guests. DJ Klive and Young Dylan opened for the group. Student's smiled for the rest of the day from the unexpected party. WE LOVE young artists motivating other young artists; let's keep this energy going!

Our sophomore dancers experienced a unique dance lesson from Celebrity Series’ Donovan Reed. The class learned an original piece practicing movements that pushed them beyond classical training. Kyle is part of A.I.M. Aim by Kyle Abraham is a leading dance company based in NYC.

We had the pleasure of hearing what would happen if a lifelong Balafon player specializing in Western African music teamed up with a Western classical cellist! The two created a synergy working together for the two musical influences to harmonize effortlessly. Our students couldn’t help but dance and clap along- a much-needed Monday vibe!

BAA Students Collaborate Professional Designers for Boston Fashion Week

The lesson focused on inspiration, creation, and applying culture to art. Watching the conception turn to reality for the Black Panther costumes gave students a real-life idea of Hollywood-level creation for a production.

Masary Studios held informational showings of the 1st-floor installation on October 18th and 19th. “The artwork is based on concepts of memory, using machine learning and camera vision to detect activity in front of it and recognize when activity takes place. The artwork records these memories and expresses them back through the large  scale LED display and custom lighting fixtures. Constantly learning and making memories, the artwork plays back stored memories based on what it observes in real-time based on the school activity.”- Masary Studios

Wondering About The Lobby Installation?

In Matt's case, we see a multicultural sports fan with a past of unique experiences that lead him to create numerous books and screen adaptations. Matt spoke frankly with our students about the very real gripes writers can face while they attempt to create a fleshed-out story from just an idea. Grappling with his unique challenges growing up, he provided pertinent strategies to deal with the ever-present obstacles a writer can face. Some include: locking yourself away from distractions, being ok with ideas that don't have a perfect ending- instead using them as inspiration for something else. Matt believes that in art, the people to appreciate your work are actually forgiving you. That forgiveness is an unknowing acceptance between the author and the project. The grandiose idea you once had in your head is not what the product consequentially becomes.

The two athletes appeared at the Boston Arts Academy to surprise and hype up students during the unveiling of the school’s new facilities.

The academy has been celebrating its 25th anniversary and hosted the pair, who spoke with students and gave advice.

“All of you here have a special talent, have a special ability,” said Williams. “Use that gift to spread it to the world and shine a light that you guys have to others.”

“Enjoy, take advantage of it, think about your future, think about (beginning to become) somebody, work hard, because the future is out there waiting for you,” Ortiz said. “God bless.”

Other guests on Thursday included Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.

Getting its start in 1998, the school’s new, five-story facility on Ipswich Street encompasses 153,500 square feet,

September 8th marked the first day of school for students at the

, but this was no ordinary start to the school year.

The students are embracing a new year in a brand new, state-of-the-art building on Ipswich Street in the Fenway area.

Boston Arts Academy is the city's only public high school for the visual and performing arts, and every part of this building was designed with the students' needs in mind.

The Head of School, Anne Clark, spoke with Anna Rossi about all the excitement surrounding the new facility, which is a dream come true for so many people.

Good evening, Boston Arts Academy families.

This will be our last bulletin of the 2021-2022 school year. I want to begin by thanking all members of our community for their continued investment and support of Boston Arts Academy. We have much to be proud of this year, and much to look forward to ahead.

Monday is our last official day of school.

 We will begin in advisory with breakfast and community building activities (karaoke, Just Dance, and Disney trivia). We then will go to Ronan Park for field day activities, including staff vs. students tug of war. Lunch will be distributed and dismissal will be at noon.

Congratulations to the many students who have

The Boston Arts Academy Foundation has provided over $50,000 in funding for students to attend academic and arts programs this summer. Congratulations to those students who will have exciting experiences at places like Interlochen, Tanglewood, and Stagedoor Manor. We have many more opportunities on our

At graduation this year, I quoted the poet Amanda Gorman: “Change is made of choices, and choices are made of character.” I think we can all agree that this was a challenging year as we returned to school in person from remote and hybrid learning. But our community made some specific choices that revealed the strength of our character. We end this year in a very strong, positive place. I wish you all a restful and fun summer, and I look forward to welcoming you to our new home!

End of Year Bulletin Message

Student Government, Emerging Leaders, Health and Wellness, and Administration have been working on a five-week plan to address students’ concerns about the current school climate in hopes of beginning a healing process that reminds us that This is Who We Are. We are calling this the Great Revival. The plan includes, but is not limited to, Mediation throughout the month, Voices Amplified campaign, an upcoming School Assembly, This is Who We are Week, Special BAA merch, Real Talk with Dr. A every Wednesday, Day of Arts Motivation, and Self Expression, Day of Circles, and a Social Media Campain. All students and adults in our community are welcome and encouraged to join us and participate directly in the healing.

Good evening, Boston Arts Academy Families. 

For the second year in a row, the City of Boston is recognizing Juneteenth, the federal holiday in the United States commemorating emancipation of enslaved African Americans. We are celebrating Juneteenth on Monday, and there will be no school. 

On Tuesday, June 21 we will follow a Monday schedule, and Wednesday, June 22 will be the last day of regular classes. 

All students will have a family conference with their advisor, either Thursday, June 23 or Friday, June 24. Advisors will share important information about closing out the school year and beginning next school year in our new building. 

Monday, June 25 is the last day of school. We have a half day celebration, starting first in advisory and ending with activities in Ronan park,

Weekly Bulletin -June 20th

Good evening, Boston Arts Academy Families 

We are looking forward to celebrating the class of 2022 at graduation Monday, June 13. 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will have a shortened day on Monday. 11th graders are invited to attend graduation. 

On Wednesday of this coming week, 9th grade students will go on a field trip to Hale Education for community building. 9th graders should have received a field trip permission form last week, and they should return it to the main office. Buses will leave our building around 8:45 at return at 2pm. 9th graders will be dismissed after the field trip. 

Also on Wednesday, 11th graders will participate in a community-building assembly led by the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute. 

Congratulations to the music department for the amazing concerts we were treated to last week. We look forward to the piano recital at Seully Hall, Boston Conservatory Wednesday at 7:00pm. 

Finally, I invite all students to look out for an “open call” audition for next year’s musical! Any student, from any majoy, who would like to be part of the musical will have the opportunity to audition. Please look for the fliers announcing the audition days/times.
