Our Mission

We support BAA, the city’s only public high school for the visual and performing arts, creating opportunities that would not otherwise be available for students who are passionate about the arts.

The Boston Arts Academy Foundation, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was established in 1999 to raise essential funds for Boston Arts Academy. Each year, Boston Arts Academy Foundation must bridge the gap between the school’s allocation from Boston Public Schools and the true cost of a high quality education that is both arts-intensive and college preparatory.

Support from foundations, corporations, and individual donors is crucial to the school’s ability to offer a comprehensive arts and academic education.

As young artists, many BAA students think differently, look different, and are sensitive to their surroundings. Even more, they face an uphill climb to access high quality education:

76%come fromeconomically disadvantaged families
61%live inDorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park neighborhoods
32%speak a languageother than English at home
35%entered 9th gradereading below grade level
17%have documented learning challengesthat require instructional accommodations
32%have experience with community violence

In support of the school and the students, our foundation has raised over $14 million to enhance their experience:

$0cost BAA students payfor a conservatory quality arts and college preparatory academic education
All BAA studentsare admitted on the basis of their passion for their art, not through their prior academic or behavioral record
100%BAA is a full inclusion schoolthat celebrates students in terms of what they can do, not what they can’t do
76%students who participatedin BAA’s 2019 summer reading program and improved comprehension. BAA provides academic support to help students succeed.
< 1.5%BAA’s dropout rateis much lower than the state and district averages
BAA’s Health and Wellness Programprovides students with access to trained clinicians for individual and group counseling
97%BAA graduates are accepted to college

The Boston Arts Academy believes in supporting every student, and the Foundation continues that work supporting BAA alumni long after they move on to college or professional careers. We offer opportunities for networking, professional development, and continued creative collaboration.
