Joy Bautista joined BAA’s science faculty in the fourth year of the school. She began her music and science career in high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Her percussion training there allowed her to teach percussion, in addition to science, at BAA in previous years. She received her BA in Biology and Educational Studies from Brown University, and her MAEd in Science Teaching from Wake Forest University. She used the training she received from the Principal Residency Program (PRN) at Northeastern and her work in Special Education to help develop BAA’s Summer Reading Program. She has presented science curriculum at numerous national and local education conventions, and served as adjunct professor for Tufts University ED101 course. She has received the 2003 Wadill Marcellus Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2012 Goldin Excellence in Education Award.
