Lorena Silva is an accomplished healthcare executive and nurse leader with over two decades of experience driving transformation across diverse health systems and regulatory bodies. Currently serving as CEO of Vitra Health, she leads the company’s strategy and growth, building a career marked by innovation, equity, and outcomes-driven leadership.
Before joining Vitra, Lorena held dual roles as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer in a national organization that advocates for women’s health. There, she championed access to reproductive care, expanded telehealth services, and collaborated on state-level legislation to improve public health services in schools.
Throughout her career, Lorena served as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Board of Nursing, appointed by Governor Baker where she oversaw licensure for more than 147,000 nurses, and Massachusetts nursing programs. She spearheaded legislative efforts to expand Advanced Practice (APRN) ultimately resulting in the passing of a Bill allowing APRN independent practice in the State of Massachusetts. Lorena also led COVID-19 response initiatives, and during her tenure within the Board, she led initiatives to bring Massachusetts Nursing entry exams pass rates from 25th to 99th percentile nationally.
Lorena has held Senior Executive roles in complex healthcare systems in Arizona, North Carolina, and Massachusetts, always with a deep commitment to the communities she serves, prioritizing health equity, inclusive leadership, and patient-centered care in every facet of her work. She actively champions diversity and inclusion in healthcare, having led transformative hiring practices that expanded representation in senior leadership. Beyond her executive roles, she gives back through meaningful engagement with community organizations, including serving in a variety of State, political and not- for profit Boards. In Massachusetts, Lorena also serves as a trustee of Boston by Foot and as a liaison to chambers of commerce and public health coalitions. Her work reflects a lifelong dedication to lifting underserved voices, fostering belonging, and ensuring access to quality care for all.
