Attend our unique teacher workshops in the fall

This fall, BAA’s Center for Arts in Education will host the 2016 Summit Series: Foundations in Culture – Your School, Your Future Coders, Your Classroom.

Building on successful teacher development opportunities that have been offered over the last 10+ years and the 2015 STEAM Summit Series, the Center will offer two distinct workshops that are relevant, unique, and applicable to almost any educator working with 6th-12th grade students.

You can choose to attend either the first, or both, of the following sequential sessions:

  • Friday, October 21, 1:30-4:30 pm
  • Friday, November 18, 1:30-4:30 pm

Building Healthy School Culture
by Edgar Vasquez, Dean of Students, Boston Arts Academy

This workshop will provide a deep understanding of healthy school culture and climate, the three tiers of Circle Practice, and specific work in Restorative Justice. Based on the significant work that has occurred at BAA over the last five years, the workshops will help you develop norms and practices to address the needs of your school community.

Building Course-Culture is Essential (and often overlooked)
by Raul Garcia and Daniel Sullivan, Humanities Faculty, Boston Arts Academy

Two veteran BAA Humanities teachers will introduce a framework for building an immersive culture around any course or content taught by multiple teachers. These workshops will help both individual teachers and content teams rethink pedagogy and curriculum, and create meaningful collaborations among educators. Your students will benefit from deeper learning experiences that increase their understanding and engagement.
