Summer Dance

Our Dance program offers training to students with varying levels of experience in a unique community setting. No previous experience in dance is required for this program. Students will experience a full day of dance intensive and an eclectic range of dance styles. They can choose either to participate in just the first week, just the second week, or the full-two weeks of the program. All students who choose to participate in the full two-weeks will be a part of a final showcase of their work, presented at a professional venue and performed with our resident professional dance companies. Summer Dance at BAA with William McLaughlin offers professional training for dancers looking for rigorous summer study to push them to the next level. A mandatory placement class and repertory audition will be held the first day of both programs and students will be assigned a level, according to faculty recommendation.

Summer Film

Now in its second year, Artistic Director John ADEkoje’s program emphasizes the whole student: creativity, technique, mindfulness, and curiosity. Over the course of two weeks, students create their own films by designing, shooting and editing their personal artistic work. All projects will be shown at a film festival at Boston Arts Academy.Students will be involved in the entire filmmaking process, from pre-production planning, through script writing, production, and post-production. In an individualized learning environment of 12 students, they will learn the basics of location scouting, screenwriting, lighting, sound, camera work, budget development and management, and editing. Filmmaking is a highly collaborative art form that builds interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Artistic Director John ADEkoje in collaboration with the Center for Arts in Education, has developed a program that emphasizes students’ development as creators of content. No experience is necessary and all levels are welcome!

“I had a blast at Summer at BAA, and I hope to audition (for BAA) once I’m in 8th grade. You will for sure see me next year!!” – 2016 Summer at BAA Student

“In most summer programs that are one-week, I have found that adults don’t really pay attention to you because they know you will be gone in a week.  But at BAA, I felt really cared for to be the best I could be.” – Summer at BAA Student
