Media Arts

Creating new spaces where technology meets storytelling.

Creative Media Piece Submission

Students must submit a creative media piece with at least one example of creative media by their audition day and time. Submissions should be only 30 seconds to 1 minute of one of the following:

  1. Audio piece
  2. Video piece
  3. Both audio and video piece

Creative Media may include:

  • Audio Engineering
  • Beatmaking
  • Filmmaking
  • Broadcast
  • Radio
  • Live Sound and Light production

Some examples of these are…

  • An original song made on DAWs like Bandlab, Soundtrap, or Garageband.
  • A short video edited on software like iMovie, Adobe Express, Canva, or a social media platform.
  • Photo or video running sound or lights at a live performance.
  • A short podcast created for a classwork assignment.
  • An audio example of an original radio show.

Audition Requirements

In-Person Audition (Audio/Video Task)

Students will then be given two short tasks, one in both video and audio, to complete in the MIDI computer lab.

Audio

  • Students will be given a collection of audio loops
  • Their task is to create a short song using loops meeting certain requirements.

Video

  • Students will be given a collection of video clips
  • Their task is to create an original sequence using the clips.

After they submit their work, they will explain their process.

Students will be provided a storytelling task in person. Every student will be guided through a workshop before being given the audition task. No students are expected to have any experience with the software provided. The audition will center around the audio and visual aspects of content creation.

Students will be provided a short animation with no sound attached.

Students will view the animation and consider what sounds should be there:

  • Sound effects (footsteps, background noises)
  • Vocalizations (speech or similar)
  • Music (from loops or other sources)

Students will load the video into the program “Logic Pro X” (which is very similar to Garageband).

Students will then be shown how to listen to audio clips of sound effects and music, and how to load those sounds into the appropriate place in the video.
