Raul Garcia

Humanities Department Chair and Faculty

Raul Garcia has been working in the Boston Public Schools for the past 22 years. He is currently in his twentieth year of teaching sophomores, juniors and seniors both ELA (or LaLa) and Humanities at BAA. During his teaching years at BAA he has taken on a number of leadership roles including Humanities Department Chair, Tenth Grade Writing Seminar Co-Leader, and Curriculum and Leadership Team Member. In recent years he facilitated workshops regarding project based learning practices, literacy strategies, discipline training and teaching in the long block in area Boston Public Schools. Prior to BAA, he was an Assistant Principal at the Greater Egleston High School in Jamaica Plain where he worked for three years and also taught at Fox Technical High School in San Antonio, Texas. His academic accomplishments include a dual BA from the University of Michigan in Sociology and Latino/a Studies, an Ed.M. in Teaching and Curriculum from Harvard University School of Education, and Principal Certification through the Principal Residency Network Program at Northeastern University. In 2012, Mr. Garcia was named a Champion of Change by The White House and the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, which honored educators who have devoted their time and efforts to working in communities, inspiring their students to excel, and promoting the teaching profession by setting a strong example in the classroom. In addition, he is a recent graduate of the Rennie Center’s EPFP Leadership program in the spring of 2020.
